TIPS FOR A SUCCESSFUL SKIT
by Whatsits Galore

Whether you rehearse your skit or perform it cold, whether you read your lines or memorize, on a stage or in a church basement, these 4 simple hints will greatly improve your presentation:

FACE THE AUDIENCE

The natural tendency is to face your co-actor while delivering your lines. Fight the urge! Face your audience, or you will lose them. You may angle your body toward your fellow actor up to 45 degrees, but never turn your back on the house unless it is specifically called for in the script.

SPEAK SLOWLY AND LOUDLY

Great acting is worthless if the audience can't hear you. Shout if you must, but make your dialogue heard. Speaking slowly will greatly aid audience comprehension. Don't be afraid to pause between sentences or at the commas.

LET 'EM LAUGH

When your audience laughs at a joke, don't cut them off. Hold your next line until they're through. Park there for a bit and savor the moment.

HATS ARE FUNNY

When all else fails, wear a funny hat. The crowd will be amused before you open your mouth.
